A study from the CDC suggests that a nationwide community-based lifestyle intervention program for preventing type 2 diabetes would appear to be an efficient use of healthcare resources. However, such a program may require participation of all health insurers in order to share prevention costs. Researchers found that after 25 years, the program would prevent or delay about 885,000 cases of type 2 diabetes and yield savings of $5.7 billion.
